Permaculture Farm Tours

Come See the Farm
Welcome to High Balsam Farm - a 1-acre urban farm in Lakewood - specializing in mushroom cultivation and permaculture. Our tour invites guests to explore both indoor and outdoor mushroom growing systems while discovering sustainable permaculture practices adapted for an urban setting. You’ll get a hands-on look at culture inoculation, substrate and grain preparation, and the conditions needed for healthy mushroom fruiting.
Take a behind-the-scenes look inside our mushroom lab—and discover how you can grow your own at home!
In addition to hands-on mushroom learning, we’ll guide you through the dynamic terrain of the farm, including 1,300 row feet of growing space. Guests are invited to enjoy fresh vegetables, greens, and herbs during the tour.
What makes High Balsam Farm unique is our commitment to permaculture. We use practices like Hügelkultur, soil regeneration, and water conservation—along with the healing power of mycelium to support soil health, water filtration, and erosion prevention.
Each tour includes a special seasonal offering—whether it's cutting your own greens, creating a flower bouquet, taking home fresh mushrooms, or enjoying a unique farm treat.
